Mayor Andre Dickens, City of Atlanta

Andre Dickens, an Atlanta native, entrepreneur and veteran community leader, was sworn in as the 61st mayor of Atlanta in January 2022.

His platform, “Moving Atlanta Forward,” focuses on ensuring every neighborhood is safe, healthy and has access to the economic development that turned the city into a tech and entertainment hub over the last two decades.

Before elected mayor, Dickens was the Post 3 at-large city councilman from 2014 to 2021. In that post, he served as chairman of the council’s transportation committee. He helped establish zoning changes and city support for affordable housing around the Atlanta Beltline, advocated for higher police officer salaries, and developed tech job training programs for young people.

His early accomplishments as mayor include making city investments into early childhood education; reestablishing the Pothole Posse to rapidly respond to residents’ reports; and leading the successful coalition to keep Atlanta whole in opposition to a de-annexation effort.

Early in his career, Dickens worked as a sales engineer for DSM Engineering Plastics. At 28, he co-founded City Living Home Furnishings, which he ran until 2011. He has also worked in and created technology and job training nonprofits.

Dickens is a graduate of Mays High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Public Administration from Georgia State University.

This event is a City of Atlanta Round Table talk with Mayor Dickens and friends.
