MIS Advisory Board report

The MIS Department held the first Top 10 Percent Event on Sept. 18 after the UGA Career Fair. It brought together “black-level” corporate members of the Board and the top 10 percent of our students based on their academic performance and leadership skills. A highlight of the event was a “speed dating” activity, where all students and companies had the opportunity to talk about what is unique about them.

The fall MIS Advisory Board meeting was held Oct. 16 at Maggiano’s in Atlanta. It was a smaller meeting than in the past, with only CIOs, partners and senior managers of corporate members of the Board. The focus was on strategic issues facing the MIS Department, including moving the Masters of Internet Technologies online, challenges in attracting high-quality PhD students and how they can be addressed, and a new research and teaching emphasis on energy informatics (i.e., saving on energy generation and consumption through information systems).

The spring Board meeting and MIS Banquet will be held on March 19 2014 in Athens and will follow the usual format of lunch, Board meeting, social hour, and MIS Banquet. If you are interested in serving on the Board, email Hugh Watson.
