Four University of Georgia professors were appointed in August to endowed chairs and professorships in the Terry College of Business.

Dean Ben Ayers announced the new faculty appointments in economics, management and management information systems, following their approval by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents.

“We are pleased to name these accomplished scholars to endowed positions on the faculty, supporting research and leadership at the college,” Ayers said. “We are grateful for the tremendous support from our alumni, friends, and Georgia Athletic Association to allow us to use these endowments to recruit and retain outstanding faculty, who are talented instructors and leading scholars in their respective fields.”

Santanu Chatterjee, Terry College’s associate dean for diversity, international and master’s programs and director of the Full-Time MBA and MS in Business Analytics programs, is the first faculty member to hold the Dr. Harold A. Black Distinguished Professorship.

Chatterjee joined the Economics Department faculty in 2001 and has served as the director of the MBA and MSBA programs since 2014. His research interests include economic growth and development, particularly foreign aid, income inequality and public investment. The university awarded a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professorship to Chatterjee in 2018.

The Dr. Harold A. Black Distinguished Professorship was established with an endowment earlier this year in honor of the first African American to enroll as a freshman and graduate from the Terry College of Business. Black, who graduated from UGA in 1966, earned his master’s and PhD degrees from The Ohio State University. He is a professor emeritus of finance at the University of Tennessee and previously served on the faculties of American University, Howard University, the University of North Carolina and the University of Florida.

New to the Terry College faculty is management information systems professor Gerald Kane, who was named to the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Chair of Business Administration. He was recruited to UGA as part of the president’s faculty hiring initiative in data science and artificial intelligence. Kane previously was a professor of information systems at Boston College and a visiting scholar at Harvard Business School. His research interests include the social and ethical implications of artificial intelligence and machine learning, how companies use digital tools to innovate through disruption and digital transformation at legacy companies.

Tim Quigley, a professor of management at Terry, was appointed to the Georgia Athletic Association Professorship. Quigley joined the management faculty in 2013. He serves as associate editor for Strategic Management Journal, and his research interests include corporate governance, the impact of CEOs and CEO succession.

Terence Saldanha, an associate professor of management information systems, is the first faculty member to hold the Becky and Howard Young Distinguished Professorship. Saldanha came to UGA in 2019 from the Carson College of Business at Washington State University. He serves as senior editor of Production and Operations Management, and his research interests include the role of information technology in business innovation, the business value of information technology, and the strategic impact of information technology.

The Becky and Howard Young Distinguished Professorship is a new faculty endowment at the college. Becky Young graduated from UGA in 1982 with a degree in economics, and Howard Young graduated with a degree in marketing the same year. He is the president of General Wholesale Beer Company, a multigenerational family business in Atlanta, and the current chair of the Terry Dean’s Advisory Council and of the Destroy Pancreatic Cancer nonprofit organization.
