For the third straight year, the Terry College’s undergraduate business programs rose in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings to No. 21 overall and 11th among public business schools.
It matches Terry’s best ranking in the annual U.S. News survey. Additionally, five of the college’s academic majors ranked among the nation’s highest-regarded specialties in business.
At No. 1, Terry’s Risk Management and Insurance program is ranked the best in the U.S. The Real Estate program stayed at No. 5 (3rd among publics), the J.M. Tull School of Accounting is ranked No. 13 (8th among publics), Management Information Systems is No. 16 (11th among publics) and Marketing is No. 32 (17th among publics).
“Our goal as a college is to advance economic development through our research, teaching and service. A key commitment in our efforts is to engage students in challenging coursework and meaningful internships and other experiences that leads to outstanding opportunities after graduation and prepares them to become leaders in the business organizations they will join or create themselves,” said Terry College of Business Dean Benjamin C. Ayers. “We’ve never been in a better position to fulfill our mission and help our students reach their potential and achieve their dreams.”
The annual ranking of undergraduate business programs is based on a reputational survey of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
Terry’s national reputation is ascending with its new facilities, built near the center of UGA’s main campus. The $140 million Business Learning Community will include six buildings once construction of the final two buildings is completed in 2019.
The college’s new home – which has brought together students, faculty, staff, alumni and employers with the support structures that connect them – is bolstering the success of graduates entering the job market, Ayers said. A record 98 percent of Terry undergraduates were employed full-time within three months of graduation, according to survey data reported by Class of 2018 graduates.
The University of Georgia also climbed higher in this year’s ranking of best public national universities released by U.S. News & World Report. UGA jumped three spots to No. 13, its highest ranking ever in the U.S. News’ Best Colleges guide.
This is the third consecutive year the university has risen in this ranking, and UGA is one of two institutions—along with the Georgia Institute of Technology—to be ranked among the top 15 from the state of Georgia. Georgia is one of only three states (including California and Virginia) to have more than one institution in the top 15. In addition, UGA and the University of Florida are the only two public institutions from the Southeastern Conference listed in the top 20.
