Terry honored two staff members with its 2014 Outstanding Staff Awards at a reception Sept. 9.
Mary Ann Barrett, director of Full-Time MBA Student Services, received the Terry Community Building Award, which was created to recognize staff for outstanding performance in helping foster a positive and helpful environment at the college.
Barrett, known to many MBA students as their “Terry mom” for the bond she creates between them, epitomizes the strong community spirit and a diligent work ethic the college values. In her daily duties, she is go-to person for academic and procedural concerns within the program. She offers an ear to all student questions, and is highly sought-after for her sage wisdom and advice.
This was her second time receiving the award.
Jim Metcalf was honored with the Terry Achievement Award, which is designed to recognize work above-and-beyond the call of duty.
As Terry’s Senior IT Manager, Metcalf is known for his creative solutions to complex technological problems. He provided indispensable support for a research project in the economics department that ended up landing a $400,000 National Sciences Foundation grant. Metcalf also created a cloud computing solution that saved time and money for Terry faculty and students working together online.
He is regularly willing to go the extra mile to ensure that Terry’s faculty, staff and students receive the full benefit of the technology available on campus. And he does it all with professional and enthusiasm.
All honorees are chosen by a committee appointed by the dean of the Terry College. Recipients of the Staff Awards are given an engraved glass award and a monetary award in recognition of their contributions.
