About this Scholarship

A native of Uruguay, Dr. Roberto Friedmann, known as Bobby, was an associate professor in the Terry College of Business, Department of Marketing, where he taught for 27 years and served as director of International Business Programs for 12 years.

Prior to entering academia, he worked in industry in South America. He gave seminars and lectures in Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, France, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Switzerland and Uruguay. It was his time traveling and working abroad that led him to emphasize the importance of travel and international experiential learning for his students.

Dr. Friedmann passed away in 2011 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. After his diagnosis, he often said he would miss teaching. The thousands of students he met on his journey enriched his life. He was a passionate teacher, loved and admired by his students for his unique style of open debate and candid discussions.

This scholarship was created in Dr. Friedmann’s memory by his son, Nick (BBA ’06), and daughter-in-law, Ashley (ABJ ’06), to create a lasting legacy and ensure his father continues to inspire students now and in the future.

This scholarship is open to all Terry students who have applied to a Terry College study away program.
